Dick Whittington & His Cat

Dick Whittington and His Cat is the English folklore of the real-life Richard Whittington (1354–1423) describing his rise from poverty through the fortune he made with the sale of his cat to a rat-infested county. The earliest known prose version is The Famous and Remarkable History of Sir Richard Whittington by Thomas Heywood, published 1656 in chapbook form.

Original candlestick figure developed from a range of historical sources. Handbuilt in terracotta, with hand coloured painted sprig decoration and spot gloss transparent glaze.
